Cultural Dos and Taboos
1. Handshakes are a common form of greeting.
2. Be sure to use proper titles and polite forms of address unless invited to move to a more informal first-name basis of exchange.
3. It is considered extremely rude to talk to elderly persons with ones hand placed on each side of the waist.
4. One should also remove one's hat or cap when speaking to an older person.
5. Do not wear sunglasses inside public or private buildings.
6. Never point fingers at people in public. This may be seen as aggressive behavior.
7. As there is a significant number of Muslims in this country one should always observe the Islamic behavior codes in Muslim company.
8. There is also a significant number of Hindus. One should be aware of rules for Hindu culture when inside a Hindu home.
9. Always ask permission to take photographs of people. Do not take photographs of public buildings or anything concerning the military.
