Cultural Etiquette
Cultural Dos and Taboos
1. Handshakes are customary during greetings. Occasionally one may add a slight bow or nod to the greeting.
2. Whether meeting someone for business or pleasure, always be punctual.
3. If invited to a Latvian home for dinner, it is fine to bring a small gift as a token of appreciation. Flowers, candy, wine or souvenirs from your country make suitable gifts.
4. Dress is casual and a well-groomed appearance is always appreciated. Eveningwear may be required for certain social functions.
5. Flashy displays of wealth may not be received well by others.
6. Good topics of conversation include sports, family, culture, and international politics.
