Cultural Dos and Taboos

1. A handshake is the customary form of greeting. However, persons of the opposite sex may choose not to shake hands with each other.

2. The predominant religion is Islam so Muslim traditions influence the way of life. Remember to never take, give, or eat and drink anything with the left hand. Always remove shoes before entering a mosque or home. Respect the daily times of prayer.
Never give a Muslim a gift of alcohol or pork products.

3. Women should dress modestly.

4. Traditional dinners may include men and women eating separately. Food may be served on a common plate and with out eating utensils. If this is the case one should be careful not to let fingers touch any part of the mouth.

5. Public displays of affection are frowned upon.
