Cultural Etiquette

Cultural Dos and Taboos

1. A handshake is the acceptable form of greeting.

2. Swimsuits must only be worn at the beach or poolside. Never go out in public without a shirt.

3. Modest dress is mandatory when visiting churches.

Note:

Tribal traditions of the Tongan Kingdom play a dominant role in the culture.  But perhaps surprising to the traveler is the fact that this is a devoutly Christian country.  Do not expect commercial enterprises to be open on Sundays and do not plan business meetings for the "day of rest."
