Cultural Dos and Taboos

1. The handshake is an appropriate form of greeting. Always ask after the health of the person you are greeting and inquire after his or her family as well.

2. The left hand is taboo. Never offer anything with the left hand. Never eat with the left hand, especially if eating from a common bowl. Never point to anyone with the left hand.

3. Dress modestly.

4. Public displays of affection are frowned upon.

5. Always ask permission before photographing anyone.
